Is there any significance behind four mornings?
Only the short amount of time that four days (or four mornings) represent, I believe! This idiom’s origin is quite cryptic, but we use the number four in lots of idioms:
- “Dire ses quatre vérités” : (“To tell one’s four truths”) To say everything that is bugging you, to say everything that you think about someone right to their face.
- “Se mettre en quatre” : (“To put oneself in four”) To try very hard to do something, to work really hard on something
- “Etre tiré(e) à quatre épingles” : (To be pulled by four hairpins”) To be immaculated dressed.
