do you happen to know a source that teaches vowel sounds for beginners? there are no French classes in my town and I'd love to teach myself. I just can't get past French pronunciation when reading words. help! :(
Oh I have a couple of tools to check pronunciation!
My fav’ one is Google Translate actually!
You go on the page, you click on the speaker >

And it will give you the whole pronunciation. You can check single words or full sentences, the pronunciation is always fine. It’s better when you put full sentences though.
If you’re an Iphone user, you can buy the Speak It! App, it can read texts or words for you.
Also, http://french.about.com/od/pronunciation/a/beginningpronunciation.htm, this lesson is quite good, but the sounds they recorded really do sound like an American speaking. It can be helpful however! Actual French pronunciation can be really hard at first, so maybe starting learning French with American accent could be an easier way. Then when you feel confident enough, you can try with real French pronunciation. That’s just an idea! Do what fits you best :)
