Have you had any problems being pick-pocketed or being mugged while in Paris? I am used to living in the city and plan on being very attentive and careful of my belongings, but after reading a lot of bad experiences online from visitors in Paris I'm getting the impression that the city is dangerous and like a pick-pocketing mecca.
I’ve never been pick-pocketed because I’m careful! Tourists really underestimate the risk, and very often leave their bags wide open, show all the shinny things they have… I stopped counting the times I had to shout in the street because someone was being pick-pocketed… If you respect basic rules, like, keeping your bag closed and right against you, hide your phone, ipod, don’t show off too much jewelry, be discreet when you’re paying somewhere so people can’t see how much you have in your wallet… If you respect that (what I think is basic precautions) everything should be fine! :)
